Flood of jobs in food processing industry FMCG will double by 2025

New Delhi: India’s food processing industry is poised to double its size by 2025-26, leading to a huge increase in employment opportunities in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. According to a recent report by TeamLease EdTech, hiring intentions have increased to 32% in the second half of 2024, from 27% in the first half of the year.

Rapid growth of food processing industry
The industry, which was valued at $263 billion in 2019-20, is estimated to reach $535 billion by 2025-26 with an annual growth rate of 12.6%. Deep penetration into rural and semi-urban markets has driven this growth.

Emergence of new employment sectors
Product segments such as dairy, ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, frozen meat and snacks are creating new jobs in supply chain and market research. Shantanu Rooj, CEO of TeamLease EdTech, said, “The expansion of FMCG companies in rural and semi-urban areas has boosted the demand for new talent.”

Intention to appoint in new areas
Intent to hire is 39% for logistics coordinators in Delhi, 37% for supply chain roles in Hyderabad and 34% for brand management trainees in Bengaluru.

The survey was conducted among 526 companies, covering 14 geographies ranging from metros to tier-1 and tier-2 cities. This shows that the rapid growth in the food processing industry is opening new opportunities for the Indian economy.
