Record-Breaking Jowar Procurement

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state ambitious target of 20,000 metric tons for jowar procurement is nearing completion. As of November 28, 17,749.25 metric tons of jowar have been purchased from 3,503 farmers, a significant jump from last year’s 5,904.55 metric tons during the same period.

The government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for jowar to benefit farmers, with ₹3,421 per quintal for Maldandi variety and ₹3,371 per quintal for hybrid jowar.

Millet Procurement Also Surges

In addition to jowar, the government is ensuring record millet (bajra) procurement. So far, 42,732.65 metric tons of millet have been purchased from 8,031 farmers, amounting to payments exceeding ₹103.9 crore. The MSP for millet has also been raised to ₹2,625 per quintal, further encouraging cultivation and sales.

District-Wise Focus

Procurement centers have been established across key districts to facilitate smooth operations for both crops:

  • Jowar procurement: Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Kanpur (Urban & Dehat), Fatehpur, Unnao, Hardoi, Mirzapur, and Jalaun.
  • Millet procurement: Badaun, Bulandshahr, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Rampur, and several others across the state.

Government Commitment to Farmer Welfare

This impressive performance underscores the Yogi government’s dedication to farmers’ welfare. By increasing MSP rates and ensuring prompt payments, the state government aims to make agriculture more profitable for small and marginal farmers while promoting nutri-cereals like jowar and millet.

With payments already crossing ₹155 crore combined, the government’s efforts to support farmers and boost rural incomes are yielding substantial results, promising a brighter future for agriculture in Uttar Pradesh.
