Ajay Jadeja Defends Gautam Gambhir Amid Criticism Over His Coaching Tenure
Amid growing criticism following Team India poor performances in recent international series former cricketer Ajay Jadeja has come out in support of new head coach Gautam Gambhir. The team disappointing results including a 0–3 drubbing by New Zealand in the Test series and a heavy defeat to Sri Lanka in the ODIs have led to increased scrutiny of Gambhir’s coaching abilities. However Jadeja believes the criticism is premature and unfair.
Jadeja Support for Gambhir
Jadeja expressed that it is unjust to judge Gambhir coaching skills after such a short time in the role. He pointed out that Gambhir who has been very upfront and transparent throughout his career deserves more time before his abilities are questioned.
I think you are being unfair to him. If you start judging people based on one or two performances especially with the short time he’s been in this role it’s too early Jadeja said in a statement to PTI. He further emphasized that phases of success and failure are natural and the current period should not be used as a benchmark for judgment.
There are phases and it will come. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. We shouldn’t start judging him in just six months. People knew what they were asking for when they brought him in. He a very clear-cut person and this is what you expected from him Jadeja added.
Rohit Sharma Return Boosts Confidence
Jadeja also discussed the return of Rohit Sharma to the squad after his brief break for the birth of his second child. He believes that Rohit leadership will provide a much-needed confidence boost for the team especially after their resounding victory over Australia in Perth.
Him coming back will surely boost India’s confidence. He is a leader who has always stood up when the team needed him and now as the team gains momentum he will once again be there to guide them Jadeja said.
As Gambhir continues his tenure as the head coach Jadeja words serve as a reminder that the path to success in international cricket is often filled with ups and downs. Time he argues will tell if the former cricketer is the right man to lead Team India to greater heights.
