WhatsApp, which has become a major communication platform across the world, has now become the new victim of scammers. Hackers are constantly adopting new methods to trap their victims, due to which users are facing financial and personal losses. This time, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam has specially warned WhatsApp users, as scammers are targeting users in various ways.

New method of scammers:

These scammers have a new strategy, in which they try to deceive people by using the names and profile photos of senior officers and leaders. They try to extort money from users through methods like gift cards. Apart from this, these fraudsters have also used pictures of important people like the Chief Minister, which helps in cheating the users.

How do these hackers work?

  1. These hackers access the contact list of senior officers in an unauthorized manner.
  2. Then they collect information about institutions and employees.
  3. Fraud messages are sent in the name of senior officials or leaders, in which an attempt is made to mislead the users.
  4. These messages contain gift cards or payment links, which are used to defraud users.

The cyber team has warned WhatsApp users to ignore messages or emails that ask for purchase links or payment. Also, it is important to verify any link officially before clicking on it. If you are contacted by any suspicious number, report it to the cyber cell.
