Brock Purdy Out for 49ers Game Against Packers Due to Shoulder Injury
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will miss this week game against the Green Bay Packers, marking the first time this season he will not start. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Friday that Purdy, who has been dealing with a right shoulder injury, will not play.
Shanahan expressed surprise at Purdy lack of progress throughout the week, noting that the quarterback had been dealing with the injury since last week game against the Seattle Seahawks. Although it is unclear exactly when Purdy sustained the injury, Shanahan described him as “day-to-day” earlier in the week. Purdy was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and by Friday, he was unable to practice at all, leading to the decision to rule him out for Sunday’s game.
In Purdy absence, veteran quarterback Brandon Allen will start for the 49ers. Allen, who has started nine NFL games, will take the reins as the team starting quarterback. Josh Dobbs, with more recent starting experience, will serve as the backup.
Purdy absence leaves a significant gap in the 49ers’ offense. Through 10 games this season, he has thrown for 2,613 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions, with a completion rate of 66%. Fans will be hoping that Allen can keep the momentum going as the 49ers face off against the Packers this weekend.
