Deandra Dottin Makes Comeback as West Indies Women’s Squad Heads to India, But Stafanie Taylor Misses Out

Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced their squad for the highly anticipated West Indies Women’s tour of India in 2024 on Wednesday. The squad includes a significant return for legendary all-rounder Deandra Dottin, who has made a successful comeback to T20I cricket. However, the tour will be without veteran batter Stafanie Taylor, who continues to recover from an injury.

The West Indies women’s team will face India in a series of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs, starting on December 15. Dottin’s return provides a major boost to the West Indies’ batting lineup, which has been dealing with a lack of experience due to Taylor’s absence.

Dottin, 33, was the standout performer for the West Indies in the recent T20 World Cup 2024, and after reversing her decision to retire from T20Is, she is now set to play her first ODI since March 2022. In contrast, Taylor, the leading run-scorer in ODIs for the West Indies, is still in the process of rehabilitation following an injury.

“We want to get more girls involved with franchise cricket moving forward,” said West Indies coach Shane Deitz. “Playing in front of Indian IPL teams is a great opportunity, and it will hopefully open doors for future prospects. We want to take the momentum we gained from the T20 World Cup into this series.”

The West Indies will be looking to build on the progress they made at the T20 World Cup, where they showed their ability to compete against top teams.

The squad for the India tour includes captain Hayley Matthews, vice-captain Shemaine Campbelle, Deandra Dottin, and several other rising stars. The tour will feature three T20Is, starting December 15, followed by three ODIs from December 22 to 27.
