Hindu Priest Shyam Das Prabhu Arrested in Bangladesh Amid Growing Tensions

NEW DELHI: In a troubling development for the ISKCON community, another member, Shyam Das Prabhu, was arrested in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on Saturday. This arrest comes just days after the detention of spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das.

Shyam Das Prabhu was reportedly taken into custody without an official warrant while he was visiting Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is currently in jail. Radharamn Das, vice-president and spokesperson of ISKCON Kolkata, confirmed the news on social media platform X, stating, “Another Brahmachari, Sri Shyam Das Prabhu, was arrested by Chattogram Police today.”

In his post, Radharamn Das also highlighted another disturbing incident, revealing that an ISKCON center in Bhairav, Bangladesh, had been vandalized. He expressed the community’s frustration, adding, “No respite in sight.”

Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former member of ISKCON Bangladesh, was arrested earlier this week on sedition charges and was denied bail during a court hearing on Tuesday.

These recent arrests have raised concerns about the safety and rights of Hindu religious leaders and communities in Bangladesh. The situation remains tense, with ongoing protests and calls for justice.
