ICC Issues Ultimatum to PCB: Accept Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy or Face Ouster
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) an ultimatum regarding the upcoming Champions Trophy. Following a virtual meeting on Friday, November 29, the ICC has demanded that Pakistan accept the “hybrid model” for the tournament or risk being excluded altogether.
Sources from the ICC revealed to PTI that the decision regarding the tournament schedule was delayed until Saturday, November 30, with a clear message for PCB. “No broadcaster will invest in an ICC event that doesn’t feature India, and even Pakistan understands this,” said an ICC Board source, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The source further stated that if PCB does not agree to the hybrid model, the tournament could be moved to another country, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) being a potential venue. However, in that case, Pakistan would be excluded from the tournament entirely.
The hybrid model, which would involve hosting certain matches in Pakistan while others are played in a neutral location, remains the point of contention. The outcome of Saturday’s meeting will determine the fate of the Champions Trophy and Pakistan’s participation in it.
