India Takes Historic 1-0 Lead in Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Prepares for Day-Night Test with Warm-Up Match

India has taken a commanding 1-0 lead in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a resounding 295-run victory over Australia at Optus Stadium. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant 161 and Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100 anchored India’s second-innings declaration at 487 for 6, following their earlier collapse to just 150. Australia’s response fell short, bowled out for 238, with Jasprit Bumrah’s match-winning performance (3/42) earning him Player of the Match honours. This historic win marks India’s largest-ever victory by runs in Australia.

Ahead of the second Test, which will be played as a day-night encounter, India will face a critical warm-up match. The Rohit Sharma-led team will play a two-day practice game against the Prime Minister’s XI at Canberra’s Manuka Oval, starting on November 30. This match holds significant importance as it will be India’s first day-night Test since March 2022, when they faced Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test due to the birth of his second child, will be looking forward to fine-tuning the team in preparation for the second Test against Australia. The warm-up match provides an opportunity for India to assess their lineup and make any necessary adjustments for the challenging day-night format.
