IOCL Dominates PSPB Inter-Unit Lawn Tennis Tournament, Clinches Double Victory
In a thrilling final at the PSPB Inter-Unit Lawn Tennis Tournament, the star-studded Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) teams emerged victorious, with both the men’s and women’s squads defeating ONGC and GAIL, respectively, to claim the coveted titles.
The IOCL men’s team triumphed 2-1 in a closely contested final, while the women’s team defeated GAIL 2-0, showcasing their dominance on the court.
In the men’s final, the experienced Davis Cuppers Divij Sharan and Rohan Boppanna overcame a challenging start to win a hard-fought three-set doubles match against ONGC’s Vishnu Vardhan and Yuki Bhambri. After splitting the singles, with Vardhan beating Sharan 6-3, 6-3 and Sumit Nagal leveling the score for IOCL with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Bhambri, the doubles match became the decider. Sharan and Boppanna came from behind to clinch the match 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 10-7, sealing the win for IOCL.
In the women’s final, IOCL’s Riya Bhatia and Olympian Prarthana Thombre both registered straight-set victories to secure the title. Bhatia defeated GAIL’s Laxmisiri Dandu 6-3, 6-3, while Thombre triumphed over Sohini Mohanty with the same scoreline, 6-3, 6-3.
