Jharkhand to Host Four National-Level Sports Events in January 2025

In a major achievement for the state, Jharkhand has been entrusted with hosting the prestigious SGFI (School Games Federation of India) national school sports competitions. Four major national-level sporting events will be held at the Mega Sports Complex in Ranchi, starting January 5, 2025. The competitions will see participation from 45 teams across India.

Event Schedule and Categories

The competitions will include Under-19 and Under-14 athletics for boys and girls, tennis, track cycling, and hockey. Here’s the detailed schedule:

  • Under-19 Athletics: January 5–8, 2025
  • Under-14 Athletics: January 11–14, 2025
  • Tennis: January 17–19, 2025
  • Track Cycling: January 17–20, 2025
  • Hockey: January 23–27, 2025

Postponement Due to Elections

Originally scheduled for November and December 2024, the SGFI competitions were postponed due to the Jharkhand assembly elections and the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct. However, following the completion of the elections, the SGFI has rescheduled the event and entrusted Jharkhand with the responsibility of hosting these prestigious competitions.

With the state gearing up for this major sporting event, the SGFI competitions promise to bring together the best young athletes from across the country, further strengthening Jharkhand’s standing as a hub for sports in India.
