Late arrival of winter in Delhi, pollution and increasing heat increase concern
Delhi’s pollution has once again increased since Diwali, and people’s health is being seriously affected due to the poison in the air of the capital. At present, Delhi’s AQI (Air Quality Index) has crossed 500, which is at a very dangerous level. At the same time, the weather is playing a different game. This time winter has arrived very late in Delhi. Even at the end of November, most parts of Delhi are feeling hot during the day, while a slight coolness is being felt in the night and morning. Not only this, this time in November 2024, the highest heat has been recorded in the last five years.
Due to delay of winter and rising temperatures
According to the Meteorological Department, this time the average minimum temperature of November was 14.9 degrees Celsius, which is a sign of the lowest winter in the last five years. Last year (2023), the temperature had dropped to 9.2 degrees Celsius in November, while in 2022 and 2021 also the winter was found to be colder. From 2019 to 2024, the winter month of November this year has been the least. In the last few years, the heat in the month of October had also broken records, and this October was the hottest since 1951.
Effect of rain and pollution
Winter has arrived late this year in Delhi as well as in many other parts of North India. Snowfall has also started late in Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department says that there may be a huge drop in temperature from December, due to which the cold is likely to increase. However, due to the Fangal storm that emerged from the Bay of Bengal in November, there has been rain in some parts, due to which the temperature in Andhra Pradesh has dropped and the effect of cold winds has started becoming visible. Due to this storm, there is a possibility of increase in cold across the country.
Pollution crisis in Delhi
At present, the problem of pollution in Delhi and NCR region has become serious. Due to continuously increasing pollution since Diwali, the AQI of the capital has crossed 500, which is at a dangerous level. This is not only affecting people’s health, but health related problems are also increasing. Difficulty in breathing, eye irritation, and throat diseases have become common. In such a situation, the residents of Delhi and government agencies are making continuous efforts to control pollution, but the situation does not seem to be improving significantly.
weather department warning
The Meteorological Department had warned in a statement issued on November 29 that the cold is expected to increase in the next few days. Also, due to the storm, warning of heavy rain has also been issued in some states. These changes are expected to increase the cold in Delhi and other cities, and may soon lead to an increase in winter.
At this time, Delhiites need to take precautions to deal with both weather and pollution. In view of the pollution situation, there is a possibility of increase in health related problems, and for this reason people are being especially advised to avoid outdoor activities.
