Major Shake-Up as Bauer Media Replaces Breakfast Shows in North and North-East Scotland with Edinburgh-Based Boogie in the Morning

Listeners in north and north-east Scotland are facing a significant change in their morning radio routines as Bauer Media Group announces the end of local breakfast shows on MFR, Northsound 1, and Tay FM. Starting January 6, 2024, these stations will replace their current morning programming with Boogie in the Morning, a popular Edinburgh-based show that recently won the UK’s Best Music Breakfast Show at The Radio Academy’s 2024 Audio and Radio Industry Awards.

This bold move means that the local breakfast shows, currently broadcast from Inverness, Aberdeen, and Dundee, will come to an end. Notably, Boogie in the Morning will now be heard across Scotland, offering a more unified national morning program. The show, which is already known for its high-energy music and engaging content, will be hosted by Tay FM’s Gregor Runciman and Lynsey Gibson.

With this shift, three beloved hosts will say goodbye. Jodie McCluskey from MFR, Jeff Diak from Northsound 1, and Lauren Mitchell from Northsound 1 will all step down after their final broadcasts in December. The decision marks a significant restructuring for Bauer’s network of stations in the region and a consolidation of their breakfast programming into a single show.

Victoria Easton-Riley, Content Director for Bauer’s Hits Radio portfolio in Scotland, expressed her excitement over the change. “We’re delighted that Boogie in the Morning will now be accessible to an even wider audience,” she said. “We extend our sincere thanks to Jodie, Jeff, and Lauren for all their hard work over the years. They are exceptional broadcasters, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”

The decision to end the local breakfast shows and bring Boogie in the Morning to a national audience comes amid ongoing changes in the radio industry, where consolidation and national programming are increasingly common. The shift reflects Bauer Media’s strategic push to create a more streamlined listening experience while maintaining a high-quality, award-winning show for audiences across Scotland.

For fans of the local shows, the change may feel like a loss, but Bauer promises an exciting new chapter with a more unified and high-energy breakfast experience. As the new year begins, listeners in north and north-east Scotland will have to adjust to their new morning companion as Boogie in the Morning takes over from the familiar voices they’ve grown to love.
