New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday expressed disappointment over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks about US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them “unfortunate” and inconsistent with India’s positive relations with the United States.
During an election rally in Maharashtra, Gandhi made a controversial comment suggesting that PM Modi appeared to be “losing his memory,” much like President Biden. He reportedly said, “My sister was telling me that she heard Modi ji’s speech, and whatever we say, Modi ji is saying the same thing these days. I don’t know, maybe he has lost his memory.”
In response to a query regarding the remarks, an MEA spokesperson stated that India shares a multifaceted partnership with the United States, one that has been developed over years of mutual respect and hard work. The spokesperson further emphasized, “The reported remarks are unfortunate and not in keeping with our warm and friendly ties with the US, and they do not reflect the official position of the government.”
The comments have sparked debate, with the MEA underscoring that the country’s diplomatic relations with the US are based on respect and a shared commitment to cooperation across various sectors.
