Over 56 Lakh Smart Prepaid Meters Installed in Bihar: Energy Minister Highlights Transparency and Quality Assurance
Patna: Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav has announced the successful installation of over 56 lakh smart prepaid meters across Bihar, aiming to provide accurate and transparent electricity services to consumers. The installation process, carried out through a transparent tendering system, has been judicially reviewed by both the Supreme Court and the High Court, with no irregularities found.
The smart prepaid meter initiative began in urban areas and was later expanded to rural areas. To date, 18 lakh meters have been installed in urban regions, while 38.03 lakh meters have been set up in rural areas.
Minister Yadav emphasized that only meters manufactured according to the latest Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications are being used. Every meter undergoes rigorous testing by the manufacturer, followed by further testing under the sampling and procedures outlined by BIS before and after installation.
In light of some misconceptions circulating about the project, the Energy Minister urged residents to trust the process, which has been implemented with the utmost transparency and adherence to quality standards.
