New Delhi: In the early hours of Saturday, three criminals brutally murdered a young constable of Delhi Police in Govindpuri, South Delhi. Patrol policeman Kiranpal Singh, 28, spotted the suspects and interrogated them. He asked for identity cards from the accused and wanted to check the phone hidden in his hand, when the drunk criminals attacked him. The attackers stabbed him twice, once in the lungs and then near the stomach. Constable Singh fell down bleeding.
Police, with the help of Crime Branch and local police, arrested two accused Deepak and Krish on Saturday. The third accused Rocky, who attacked first, is absconding and the search for him is on. Deepak was shot during the arrest as he tried to escape from the police. The accused were involved in petty thefts and snatching, police are investigating their previous criminal records.
The incident is the second killing of on-duty policemen in the last two months. Earlier, a policeman was killed in Nangloi by a drunken man, who was allegedly an illegal liquor supplier.
Saturday’s incident occurred around 4:45 am, when head constable Singh was on his patrolling duty in Govindpuri area. A police officer said, “He was going towards the police station when he saw three people who were drunk. When they protested, they started misbehaving with the police and started scuffling.” The attackers stabbed Singh and fled from the spot.
DCP (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh said that at 5 am, when Singh did not return to the police station, his colleague constable Sunil called him, but there was no response. Sunil started searching for him and found him unconscious on the road. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police launched a search operation and analyzed the footage of the suspects, which led to the location of one of the accused, Deepak, at DDA flats in Govindpuri. The police team led by DCP (Crime) Sanjay Sain tried to arrest him. As soon as the police reached near his house, Deepak hid in the bathroom and opened fire at the police. The police retaliated and injured him.
At the same time, the police also arrested another accused Krish, while the search for the third accused Rocky is going on. The police interrogated the accused, in which they told that they had gone to a friend’s birthday party and after an argument with someone there, they had gone out for a walk in the area when they collided with the police.
The residents of the area are heartbroken after this murder in Govindpuri. Drug selling and drinking are common in the area, and residents also allege that crime has increased due to the lack of patrolling here. The incident has raised questions about security in the area as it happened just 200 meters away from the police booth.
