Prithvi Sengupta Dehradun’s star shines by winning bronze in Iceland, 2028 Paralympics is the next target

Dehradun’s young powerlifter Prithvi Samrat Sengupta created history. IPF World Open Powerlifting Championships 2024 Won bronze medal in. Competing in the 66 kg weight category, he demonstrated his fearlessness and determination. The prestigious tournament was held in Iceland from November 10 to 16, where Prithvi was the youngest and only Indian among the 59 contestants.

Prithvi’s Inspirational Story: From Down Syndrome to World Powerlifting

There is an extraordinary story behind this achievement of Prithvi. His powerlifting journey began when doctors advised him to do physical activity to strengthen his muscles. Prithvi’s mother told, “At the age of six, I first noticed his love for weight lifting when he went to the gym.”

However, his journey was not easy. Prithvi, suffering from Down syndrome, faced neglect in school and society in his early days. While studying in a regular school, he was often sidelined. Questions were also raised against his parents and relatives. But today the same people are proud of their success and stand in line to take selfies.

Many milestones in two years of professional training

Prithvi started professional training under the supervision of coach Aman Vohra in Dehradun two years ago. Coach Vohra said, “Prithvi is fearless and learns every new technology with full dedication. I also had to change my strategy for his training.”

Prithvi’s mother inspired the parents of special children and said, “Never lose hope. With the right support and guidance, these kids can make you feel proud.”
