Priyanka Gandhi Slams BJP Compares Political Challenges to Wayanad Landslides
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, accusing the ruling party of disregarding democratic norms in political battles. During a public meeting in Kerala, she likened the BJP’s approach to politics to the recent landslides in Wayanad, asserting that like a natural disaster, the BJP operates without rules or accountability.
The political challenges we face (from the BJP) today are like the landslides. There are no rules. There are no explanations, Priyanka Gandhi remarked, highlighting what she sees as the BJP’s chaotic and undemocratic behavior. Speaking at a joint meeting with her brother Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, she emphasized the erosion of democratic values in the BJP’s tactics.
The behaviour of the ruling party (at the Centre), the BJP, knows no democratic norms, not even those we normally adhere to in a political fight, she said, while addressing a gathering at Mukkam in Kerala.
Priyanka Gandhi, on her first visit to Kerala since her Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll win, expressed concerns about the destruction of institutions, warning that this was leading to a growing distrust in the electoral process and in the institutions that have traditionally upheld India’s democracy.
Assuring the people of Wayanad that their voice would be heard in Parliament, Priyanka added, It is your voice that I will raise, it is your problems that I will try to resolve, and it is your beliefs, values, and aspirations that I will stand for each and every day from now till the end.
The Congress General Secretary, who recently took the oath as an MP from Wayanad with a massive margin of 4.1 lakh votes, pledged her commitment to the region and its people. She took the oath in Hindi, holding a copy of the Constitution in her right hand.
