Pujara chose Rahul, Shastri gave importance to Parth, who will be India’s new star at number three?
Ever since the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been announced, a big question in everyone’s mind is how the Test matches will be won in Australia without Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Mohammed Shami. All three played an important role in India’s historic victory on the last Australia tours. Pujara’s contribution was the highest, where he performed strongly with his bat in 2018-19 and scored 521 runs with the help of three centuries. This time Pujara is not included in the team, but will be seen in the role of commentator in the series.
While sharing his views on India’s batting at the number three position before the start of the Test match in Perth on Friday, Pujara took the name of KL Rahul. He praised Rahul’s experience at the international level and his ability to handle pressure, especially while batting at number three. According to Pujara, Rahul can fulfill this challenge very well.
Pujara said, “I don’t know about the batting order of the team, but I would like to keep KL Rahul at number three. He has the experience to handle pressure.” He also named Devdutt Padikkal as an option for this role, as his left-right hand combination can create problems for the bowlers.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was also present in this program. Praising Pujara, he said, “No one can replace Pujara at number three.” Along with this, he also emphasized on Rahul’s ability to play innings for a long time. According to Shastri, in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, India can give Rahul a chance in Perth, while Padikkal is also a contender for a place in the playing eleven.
This is an important decision for India, as how Pujara’s absence will be filled could be the turning point of the game for the upcoming Test matches.
