Sambhal Violence: Internet Restored After Five Days, Strict Restrictions Enforced to Maintain Peace
SAMBHAL: Internet services resumed in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district on Friday evening after five days of suspension following violence triggered by a mosque survey. To prevent further unrest, District Magistrate Dr. Rajendra Pensia imposed Section 163 of BNSS, banning gatherings of five or more people until December 10.
Stringent Measures to Ensure Order
According to the DM’s orders, public gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, and sieges are prohibited without prior approval from a magistrate. Loudspeakers or any sound-amplifying devices are also restricted, with usage only permitted between 6 AM and 10 PM after obtaining proper permissions. However, exceptions have been made for funeral processions, religious events, and official government programs.
The administration has also banned any protests targeting specific religions or communities, emphasizing the need to maintain communal harmony.
Internet Services Resume Amid Heightened Vigilance
Internet services were restored at 4 PM on Friday, following peaceful Friday prayers at the Shahi Jama Masjid and other mosques in the district. Officials had encouraged residents to offer prayers at local mosques to avoid large gatherings at the Jama Masjid, a move that helped maintain calm.
The district had been on edge after clashes erupted over the survey of a Mughal-era mosque. Additional CCTV cameras were installed, and law enforcement remained on high alert to monitor the situation.
Ban on External Political Leaders
Authorities have also restricted the entry of external political figures to avoid any potential escalation. The focus remains on restoring normalcy while ensuring public safety and harmony in the district.
A Community Call for Peace
The administration has called for cooperation from residents to uphold peace. As Sambhal begins to recover, the stringent measures underscore the importance of vigilance and community support in navigating this sensitive period.
