Shahzaib Khan’s Record-Breaking 159 Leads Pakistan to Thrilling 43-Run Victory Over India in U19 Asia Cup

In a dramatic U19 Asia Cup Group A opener on Sunday in Dubai, Pakistan stunned India with a 43-run victory, powered by a blistering 159 from Shahzaib Khan and a fiery pace attack. The eight-time champions India were outplayed in all departments as Pakistan put on an outstanding all-round performance.

Shahzaib Khan’s remarkable 159 off 147 balls, which included 10 sixes, set several records, including the highest individual score in youth ODIs against India. His scintillating knock propelled Pakistan to a total of 281/7 in their allotted 50 overs. The opening partnership between Shahzaib and Usman Khan was instrumental in laying a strong foundation, with the pair adding a massive 160 for the first wicket.

Usman’s departure for 60, followed by a quick dismissal of Haroon Arshad, allowed India to make some inroads. However, Shahzaib’s partnerships with Muhammad Riazullah (27) and others kept Pakistan’s momentum going, even as they lost wickets regularly. Despite the late flurry of wickets, Pakistan finished with a formidable total.

Chasing 282, India’s top order crumbled under pressure. The early departures of Vaibhav Suryavanshi (1), Ayush Mhatre, and C Andre Siddarth left India struggling at 81/4. Pakistan’s pacers, led by Ali Raza, kept the pressure on, dismissing key players at regular intervals. Nikhil Kumar fought valiantly with a knock of 67, supported by Kiran Chormale (20) and Harvansh Pangalia (26), but it was not enough.

India’s lower order briefly threatened Pakistan’s total, but timely wickets, including a run-out in the 48th over, saw India all out for 238, falling short by 43 runs.

With this dominant win, Pakistan moved to second place in the Group A standings, while India slipped to fourth. Pakistan’s all-round performance has given them the perfect start in the tournament, while India will need to bounce back in their remaining group matches against UAE and Japan.
