Shubman Gill Opens Up About Injury Setback, Ready to Make His Comeback in Adelaide Test

Shubman Gill is back on his feet after a frustrating setback that kept him out of the Perth Test. The young Indian batter had been sidelined due to a thumb injury just before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener, missing out on a chance to play in the iconic Perth Test. However, as India secured a massive victory, Gill remained positive and has now shared an update on his recovery.

In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gill revealed that he had been carefully monitoring his injury during his time off and was cautiously optimistic about his recovery. “It was my first day, and I was just trying to get a feel, see how the injury is reacting, if there was any soreness. But it actually went much better than what I and Kamlesh bhai expected. I am very happy with that,” he said.

Reflecting on his absence from the Perth Test, Gill admitted he was disappointed at not being able to play in one of the venues he had yet to experience. “When I got to know about my injury, for the first couple of days, I was quite low and disappointed. Perth was the only venue where I didn’t play when we came the last time, and I was looking forward to playing there. But the way we played that game, at the end of the day, I was very happy,” he added.

Gill, who was part of India’s memorable 2020-21 tour of Australia and played in the Brisbane Test, is now feeling better and back in action, facing throwdowns from Assistant Coach Ryan Ten Doeschate. With the Adelaide Test, a Day-Night match, on the horizon, it remains to be seen if Gill will make it into the playing XI. However, with his injury improving, he is hopeful of making a full recovery in time for the challenge ahead.
