AHMEDABAD: For Coldplay fans, buying concert tickets is just the beginning, as the real challenge lies in reaching Ahmedabad amid exorbitant air tickets and hotel rates. Attending the grand concert to be held on January 25-26 has now become an expensive adventure.

Airfares have skyrocketed to 252% of normal and hotel prices have also reached new heights, making the event a financial challenge for most people. Coldplay’s music may promise “heaven”, but reaching Ahmedabad now feels like “heaven’s pain”.

Airfare has tripled for the concert weekend. The price of roundtrip tickets from Bengaluru has reached Rs 43,000, while fares from Kochi and Hyderabad are also Rs 27,500 and Rs 27,000 respectively. Tickets for shorter routes like Mumbai and Pune have also gone up to Rs 17,400 and Rs 21,269. The fare to Delhi is now Rs 22,270, which is much higher than the normal rates.

Virendra Shah, owner of a travel company in Ahmedabad, said, “This increase in airfares and hotel prices reflects the extraordinary demand for the event. “We had previously seen this type of price increase during the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.”

Ahmedabad’s travel and hospitality sector is posting record profits, but many fans are wondering if their “adventure of a lifetime” is worth the hefty price tag. Coldplay’s lyrics promise “every tear is a waterfall”, but for traveling fans those tears may just be on their bank accounts.
