Expected Price Drop to ₹35 per Kilogram
With the recent influx of onions, market analysts predict a potential price reduction. Reports suggest that the retail price of onions could soon drop to ₹35 per kilogram. Currently, onions are being sold at prices ranging from ₹60 to ₹80 per kilogram in Delhi. The increased stock is expected to lead to an official announcement regarding the revised pricing shortly.
Where to Find Affordable Onions
The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has sourced this onion supply through the Price Stabilization Fund. A significant portion of these onions, exceeding 140,000 tons, has been distributed to various regions via road transport from Nashik and other centers. The National Cooperative Consumer Federation (NCCF) is overseeing the distribution to 104 locations across 22 states.
Retail sales at the anticipated ₹35 per kilogram will be facilitated through partnerships with central warehouses and Reliance Retail, ensuring that these onions reach consumers at a lower price point in the market soon.
Timeline of Onion Deliveries
The government’s strategic initiative to transport onions efficiently began with the first delivery of 1,600 tons on October 20, followed by another 840 tons arriving on October 26. Additionally, shipments have been sent from Nashik to Guwahati. For the current rabi season, the government has reportedly accumulated around 470,000 tons of onions, aimed at ensuring sufficient supply during this crucial time.
