As India nears the close of its festive season, spanning Diwali and other major celebrations, car buyers are marking new beginnings with vehicle purchases. The trend, spurred by auspicious timing, exclusive offers, and festival discounts, has traditionally led to a rise in new car sales. However, this year, the pre-owned segment is also witnessing remarkable growth. Used car platform Spinny recorded an impressive 40% increase in deliveries in October compared to last year, highlighting the festive buzz within the used car market.

Festive Season Drives Used Car Sales Growth: Key Trends

According to the latest report from Spinny, demand surged across major cities such as Bengaluru, NCR, Hyderabad, and Pune, with particular interest in automatic cars, SUVs, and financing options. High-traffic festival days, including Navratri, Dhanteras, and Spinny’s own “Festival of Spinny” sale days, saw daily deliveries exceeding 500 cars. Demand for automatic vehicles alone surged by 57%, a clear sign that convenience is a top priority for today’s buyers.

Spinny’s car exchange program also registered a 39% increase, with many buyers opting to upgrade their vehicles—aligned with the Dhanteras tradition of asset enhancement. Petrol vehicles became the segment’s most sought-after choice, with a 50% growth in demand, while SUVs and sedans saw impressive increases of 49% and 46%, respectively.

Women Buyers Boost Used Car Market

Women accounted for over 20% of Spinny’s customer base in October, reflecting a significant trend of increasing interest in pre-owned cars among women buyers. This shift further emphasizes the inclusive appeal of the used car segment during India’s festive period, which has become a time for families and individuals alike to make long-lasting investments in mobility.
