State-Wise DA Increase for Government Employees Ahead of Diwali Celebrations

As Diwali festivities sweep across India, several state governments are celebrating by announcing Dearness Allowance (DA) hikes for their employees. This year, the focus is on supporting government staff and pensioners with financial relief during this joyous occasion. Among the states leading the charge is Tripura, which has announced the most substantial DA increase compared to others.

Tripura’s Generous DA Announcement

Tripura has made headlines with its decision to grant a 5% DA increase to approximately 188,000 government employees and pensioners. This move was confirmed by the state’s Food and Civil Supplies Transport Minister, Sushant Chowdhury, who emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce. The new rates will come into effect on November 1, 2024, providing much-needed financial assistance just in time for the festival.

Financial Implications for the State

The DA increase is expected to impose a financial burden of around ₹500 crores on the Tripura government. According to the state’s finance department, there are approximately 160,000 government employees and 82,000 pensioners in Tripura, all of whom will benefit from this increase in their monthly pay.

Other States Following Suit

In addition to Tripura, other states are also taking steps to provide additional financial support to their government employees:

  • Uttarakhand: The state has announced a 3% DA increase, along with a bonus of up to ₹7,000 for its employees.
  • Uttar Pradesh: The government has approved a 3% DA hike for its employees ahead of Diwali celebrations.
  • Punjab: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a 4% salary increase for state government employees.

A Nationwide Trend

The trend of increasing DA is not limited to just a few states. Other regions such as Jharkhand, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya have also announced similar increases in DA for their employees. Additionally, the central government has declared a 3% DA hike for its employees as part of this festive financial relief initiative.
